Hotel Pipe-Break

After a massive snow storm in West Hartford a local hotel had experienced a massive pipe-break. A main sprinkler system pipe broke on the top floor pouring tons of gallons of water every minute into the hotel. The water spread down to all five floors in the building and created so much humidity that a mold disaster broke out immediately afterwards. SERVPRO of West Hartford immediately dispatched their team and brought in 100 dehumidifiers, 200 air movers, and 53 air scrubbers to carefully dry every room to avoid allowing mold to spread any further.

You Never Know

Not long after a couple moved into an apartment, they decided to tore down all of the wallpaper so that they could paint. To their surprise they had found the beginning stages of mold growing underneath where they wanted to paint. Finding more under all the other wallpaper in that room they immediately called SERVPRO of West Hartford to mitigate the damage so that they could continue sprucing up their new apartment which seems even newer now thanks to SERVPRO!

Fading Away?

These customers thought that their paint was just slowly fading away from being an old house. But when one of their friends had come over, they had informed the couple that it was not what they'd thought, it was mold. They felt embarrassed that they failed to identify such a thing in their home. SERVPRO was very understanding to the situation and explained that it happens to many people, some people are oblivious to what mold actually looks like in a home until it may reach its further stages.

Cheap Properties

There is a reason why some properties are so cheap. After upsettingly purchasing a property this customer’s first concern was tackling the mold buildup in the walls. SERVPRO of West Hartford arrived immediately after the owner made the call that very morning. They remediated the damage and did a great job renovating the walls and floors.

Right Beneath Your Feet!

One of the last things people usually decide to replace is the floors, and floors are a very common place for mold to be found growing. Things get spilled all the time on floors and liquids can easily get underneath tiles and sit there for days, which then turns into months, then years. When this mold was found SERVPRO came to the remediation rescue and restored the area to an even better condition!

Dozens of people lost their homes after a fire ripped through two separate multi-family buildings in West Hartford, Connecticut.

SERVPRO of West Hartford first responders were quickly on the scene.

We had spent the whole night and into the next day securing the property and personal belongings from the fire and water wreckage.

Our crews turned off the electricity and water, they boarded up the windows and doors, and removed hanging debris from the outside of the building.

About 20 residents were displaced. Many of them looked to us to salvage what we could from their homes and personal belongings.

Most of the 20 residents' belongings were in a pile of ash and rubble. SERVPRO of West Hartford was able to restore the condition of some of those important possessions.

Spend $800 to Save $30,000

A West Hartford homeowner had suffered a major water loss behind expensive kitchen cabinets. Standard procedure which would have been to cut through the cabinets to fix the plumbing. SERVPRO of West Hartford chose to save the cabinets by cutting through the pipes below the cabinets. It was a creative solution that cost $800 of repair work to the pipes but saved the newly installed ornate kitchen cabinets that the homeowner said had cost $30,000.

Water Damage in a Hospital

A sprinkler head broke at a major Connecticut hospital causing major water damage. One 3,000 square foot floor was flooded with water and the moisture then seeped into the walls.

We determine the scope of the water damage and how far the moisture had traveled to ensure proper and complete restoration.

Then we had removed the majority of the water with pumps and vacuum units. Next our crew used specialized equipment to remove the remaining water. We used room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the best number of air movers and dehumidifiers needed to dry the hospital wing.

Then we cleaned restorable items and structures damaged by the water. We decontaminated the hospital wing and removed odors and deodorize the floor.

Hardware Store Fire

A car crashed into a local hardware store and burst into flames, setting the building on fire. After the fire was out, we got the call at 5 p.m. Within an hour the SERVPRO of West Hartford crew was on the site to cover four holes in the roof and six broken storefront windows. We cleaned up glass and the next day we boarded off the damaged section so the store could open for business. We removed the smoke smell and soot damage. We transported a truck of furniture and equipment to our warehouse for thorough cleaning and restoration. While cleaning up the store we tested for asbestos. We used negative air machines and dehumidifiers to dry the site, then did construction work on the roof and elsewhere. Within about 10 days we had the furniture and equipment back and the store was 100% up and running again. Fast action keep the lost revenue to a minimum and kept insurance costs down.

Medical Center Sewer Back Up

A local dialysis center had sewage back up into their 5,000 square foot facility. The dialysis center called a mitigation company that could not come immediately. They called us second and we were on the scene within an hour. SERVPRO of West Hartford's crew extracted all the contaminated water. We then cleaned the floor and all the furniture legs (desks, tables, chairs, etc.)--anything that had been in the muck. We power washed the floor again. And because sewage water is grossly unsanitary and may contain bacteria and viruses that could cause serious illness, we had used a strong antibacterial disinfectant. Along the way we discovered and removed a mold problem. In 10 days the work was done and the medical facility was back to 100% use.

Fire & Ice

Firefighters do an amazing job saving lives and stopping fires. But sometimes putting out a fire can cause another type of damage. Here is a home in West Hartford, CT. Partial Roof Collapse in West Hartford, CT

Fire damage at a West Hartford, Connecticut home caused a partial roof collapse. SERVPRO of West Hartford had worked with a construction company to board up the roof, windows, and doors. We also secured a tarp the roof to protect the home from further damage. And SERVPRO of West Hartford worked with the insurance adjuster on the next steps to restoring the home. This job reminded us of something important: whether you live in an older home or a brand new home--you need to inspect your roof (regardless of the roof’s age) at least a few times a year and make any necessary repairs. One advantage of inspecting your roof frequently is that you may spot small repairs you can make yourself at little cost. Finding and fixing the small issues prevents them from growing into bigger and much more costly issues.

House Fire Safety

When you’ve been on the scene of hundreds of house fires like SERVPRO of West Hartford has, you get to thinking about fire safety. So many of the homes we’ve restored after fire and smoke damage could have avoided damage if people had been a bit more careful. We like to remind people of basic fire safety guidelines. Talk with your kids about the dangers of playing with matches, lighters, and flammable liquids. Do not leave your kitchen when you are cooking. Know and post your local fire department’s emergency phone number. Keep gasoline, kerosene, paint thinners, and other flammable liquids in appropriate containers and away from other flammable materials. These guidelines sound easy and simple but you’d be surprised how many people do not follow them.

Water Damage Restoration

When we respond to water damage in West Hartford or anywhere else, people are usually surprised by the science and technology required to restore their property to its best possible condition. SERVPRO of West Hartford uses psychrometry to fight water damage. Psychrometry is the study of air and its properties (temperature, humidity, vapor pressure, dew point, etc.). Whether your dishwasher’s overflowed or flood waters have invaded or you’ve suffered other water damage, applying psychrometry can minimize the problem. It helps us control temperature and humidity levels. We also use many other tools like moisture sensors, moisture meters, and thermohygrometers to define how much moisture has been absorbed. You can not remove all the water if you don't know it's there.
